Jazmin Goodson is an assistant choreographer at Rhythmic Soul Dance Company here in Charlotte, NC. Growing up, she was afforded many opportunities in the performing arts. Ms. Goodson has experience in hip-hop and lyrical dance forms but, most of her experience is in the art of stepping. She began stepping at age 12 while attending McClintock Middle School. After graduating from East Mecklenburg High school in 2012, Ms. Goodson attended Mars Hill University where she pursued a music minor and Bachelors of Science degree in Business. While also attending Mars Hill, she founded her own step team, The M. Hill Steppers. There she was able to choreograph steps, step shows, dances and flash mobs. This experience allowed her 4 years of creative freedom in perfecting her craft and providing entertainment for the college campus.
After graduating Mars Hill University in May 2016, Ms. Goodson began to pursue a career in arts administration. She has had internships at the Mint Museum, volunteers at the Harvey B. Gantt Center and assists with weekly rehearsals for the youth department at Restoration Ministries C.O.G.I.C. There she helps create dances, steps, and teaches the youth choir.
Ms. Goodson will be attending Winthrop University in the fall of 2018 to gain a Masters of Arts Administration. She hopes to one day own her own arts center where children and teens can learn all art forms of performing and visual arts. She believes the arts help to garner character and creativity and wants to help provide children and teens with the confidence to do whatever they put their minds to. Her passion for the arts pushes her to be more knowledgeable and receptive of new techniques in the arts. This great opportunity at Rhythmic Soul Dance company will provide her with the tools and experiences needed to aid with her future endeavors. She is excited for the new journey ahead and expects great things!
